In today’s LATINA class, we spent a lot of time on the contemporary devlelopment of e-learning(teaching&learning in the digital world). Due to our coming from three different countries, Tord let us find information about what’s the situation of ICT(Information and Communication Technology) in our own countries. I have found some materials about ICT in China.
http://www.unescobkk.org/fileadmin/user_upload/ict/e-books/Teacher_Education_Case_Studies/ICT-Capacity_Standards_for_Teachers_in_China.pdf
In China, a National Educational Technology Standard for Teachers was issued in 2004. This link is a paper which aims to introduce China’s ICT-capacity standards and the areas in which teachers will be trained. It begins with an overview of the education reforms that have been implemented in China over the past 30 years, and introduces China’s curriculum framework. It also describes China’s initiatives in terms of integrating ICT into school-level education. Moreover, it describes China’s national educational technology standards for teachers and lists some of the activities being undertaken and some suggestions for changes.
I think it’s the most useful article I have found. I have never paid much attantion to the ICT education in China. Maybe because it’s a little bit far from my major. However, I found it interesting and quite necessary to know today. Chinese ICT is developing in a high speed in the recent years as well as the Chinese economy. About fifteen years ago, the majority of Chinese people had no idea what the internet is at all, but now, China has the most enormous population of netizens which is 298 million increasing by 41.9% from 2007 according to the survey reported by CNNIC in 2009 (from http://www.cnnic.net.cn/html/Dir/2009/03/23/5512.htm).
With the increasing of Chinese netizens, Chinese ICT also goes forward in big steps. The young generation of China witness the process of ICT developing in China. I really agree with the description on the article ‘My Experiences of ICT in China’ I found on internet (http://www.inholland.nl/NR/rdonlyres/1F09BF4B-E949-4F9F-87B3-A976385B46CD/799/ICTexperiencesinChina.pdf). That’s the years I have experienced. And I got a lot of feeling when look back that period.
Thanks for the arrangement of today’s class. It let me know not only the current ICT education in China but also the history of Chinese computer technology and internet development.

Texture? When I heard this name Iwas really confused. How can texture be linked to our LATINA course? I cannot figure out. But Ann-Hege give me the answer.
She showed us her blog where posted a lot of information and materials about the texture. And she has divided them into different catalogues. Texture in geography, texture in painting, texture on stones, texture in cloth and so on. I have not noticed there were so many kinds of texture around me in my life. I extremely fancy the relationship between texture and impressionistic art she explained in her presentation. Moreover, the plenty of interesting videos about texture she showed us also impress me. There was a music video from a band called Texture in her speech. It has lots of special shots which takes the slow motion of the flowing water. I think it’s a quite creative music video. And we can see the fexture of water in it as well.
Vibeke Bjarnø let us know the fragments which exist everywhere on internet. At the beginning, I don’t know what do fragments mean.Vibeke tell us a lot about the Task Manager, the InUnGrUs, the Authentication, the Thread, the Discdoc fragment, uploads, links and terms. Although, I cannot understand totally, I have got the overview of fragments. And the short video she played is also interesting.

Back LATINA course today.
We will have presentation on Thursday or Friday. Oh^^Î’m really nervous. I make presentation in English seldom. I’m a little bit worried about my performance.
Howerver, we learned a lot about how to make a good presentation today in the class. We searched online for the information and materials of the skills of presentation separately first. Then we were divided into two groups to discuss about what we had found. Alice found a usefull way to let the tips occur on the screen but not seen by the audiences. It’s quite sweet. I have often hoped to have such method in my presetation before. Other classmates found many different kinds of important tips and articles as well. Yang’s video made a deep impression on. It’s a good example of the problems we often have but not noticed by ourselves in the presentation.
Then Tord let us face our classmates and introduce about our searching results. It’s also a test of our performance in the presentation. I kept looking at the board when I do the introduction. Maybe it’s because I will feel comfortable not looking at the audiences. But it’s weird for the listeners. I can imagine that. Tord let my know my weak point. And I tried my best to conquer it. Finally, I succeeded. I’m really happy. I will take care of it when preparing my presentation at home.

I heard about three interesting books this morning on the LATINA class this morning. They are Chris Anderson’s <The Long Tail>, John Battelle’s <The Search>, and Clay Shirky’s <Here comes everybody>.
These are all books about new media researching. We were seperated in there books and searched the general ideas and background of the books on the internet, then dicussed the books.
I was in the <The Search> grounp. It is a really good book talking about search engine and Google. Their company story ,history and business. And I also know some thing about The Long Tail theory form other classmates. I’m now eager to read these three books now.

Phoenix TV is a Hong Kong-based Mandarin Chinese television broadcaster which serves the audience of Greater China region (including mainland China, Hong kong, Macau and Taiwan) via satellite .Benefit from established in Hong kong and owned by private, Phoenix TV has few restrictions on broadcasting. Therefore they can cover many sensitive topics which mainland media don’t dare to broadcast. Like the mine disasters in Shanxi province and the AIDS village in Henan province in China. But it has a good relationship with the People’s Republic of China government. And It is one of the few privately owned broadcasting companies in mainland China able to report information about events not broadcasted by the government media like CCTV, such as the coverage on the Rally Against Basic Law Article 23 on 1 July 2003.
In 2007, Phoenix was rated as one of China’s 500 most valuable brands, according to the World Brand Laboratory, one of the leading brand-evaluation organizations. And it gained a name “Oriental CNN” by Time and many other western media.
And Phoenix TV is also the pioneer in developing its new media in China. It has a comprehensive and popular website in Chinese. http://www.ifeng.com/ And a good website in English. http://www.ifeng.com/phoenixtv/77405618595430400/index.shtml The news on its website are quite different from that they broadcast on Phoenix TV in topics and contents. In my project I want to compare what they broadcast in traditional media way and new media way.

We tried using Bloglines in the LATINA course today. I have found many interesting websites about Arts, Movies, and Music which I’m interested in on it. And subscribed them all. So it will be more quickly for me to know news and articles about these fields. I just need to open my Bloglines, and then I will totally get what I want to know. That’s cool! I have used Google Reader before. But I found Bloglines more useful.

I have been learning Wikipedia today. The contents, the products ,the languages, the quality, the popularity of Wikipedia. It’s really useful to know how to use Wikipedia. I can take great advantage of it by search information in it. Then I will know many things I have not even heard about before. I guess I will use the Wikipedia everyday.
